Vijayawada: There are as many as 885 vacant seats in the revenue division of Vijayawada social welfare hostels to be filled up by students of SC, ST, Minorities and BCs. Among them, 198 seats meant for girls and 657 seats for boys were vacant. The district authorities and officials concerned were asked to fill up seats at the earliest.

The social welfare hostel run by the government provides a trunk box, steel glass, bed sheets, carpet, text and notebooks and four pairs of uniform for free for the unprivileged students from the backward communities, to encourage them to continue education. Also, government is providing a cosmetic charge of Rs 65 for boys and for girls (class 8th to 10th) Rs 75 and Rs 55 for the girls studying from classes 3rd to 7th per month. Special tutors for class 10 students will be allotted at the hostel. Students who secure A1, A2, B1 and B2 grades will be enrolled in private educational institutions for further education.

The vacant seats for boys are present at hostels in Tadepalli, Singhnagar, Nidamanuru, Edupugallu, Kankipadu, Tenneru, Akunuru, Vuyyuru, Tadanki, Pamidimukkala and Thotlavalluru. For girls, seats are vacant at hostels in Nunna, Tadepalli, Godavarru, Punadipadu and Vuyyuru.

Public representatives, leaders, officers, women representatives and youth should ensure they educate parents about government education and facilities to fill the vacant seats.
