Hyderabad: International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid-Tropics (ICRISAT) has assured the Andhra Pradesh government that it would work out an action plan for effective rainwater management techniques, food security and improving livelihood of farmers in the State by devising a plan to make agriculture profitable.
At a meeting with Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, the ICRISAT Director General William D Dar and director ICRISAT Development Centre Dr Suhas P Wani offered their whole-hearted support to the government.
The executives informed the Chief Minister that they would follow the State government’s mission-based approach through convergence, capacity building and collective action. Naidu further asked the ICRISAT to collaborate with the State government in making Andhra Pradesh a drought-free State. He said the government would like ICRISAT to suggest innovative science-led technologies to transform rain-fed as well as irrigated agriculture in the State.
Based on the availability of land and resources in the State, the Chief Minister has asked them to suggest appropriate cropping systems that would create better livelihood opportunities for farmers.
