Madhira (Khammam): People in this village on the border of the two States of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh are being deprived of basic facilities like drinking water and power supply.

Though the villagers submitted petitions on several occasions to officials and the people’s representatives, no one so far has cared to come to their rescue. The village is Annayipalem village in Madhira mandal of Khammam district.

The villagers are demanding that their village be merged with Andhra Pradesh, if the people’s representatives and officials in Khammam district continue to ignore them.

The two villages—Jonnalagadda and Annayipalem—situated on Madhira-Nandigama highway are part of united Andhra Pradesh. However, following bifurcation, Annayipalem comes under Telangana, while Jonnalagadda has gone to Andhra Pradesh.

Earlier, 100 families used to reside at Annayipalem. Now the number of families residing in the village has gone down to 40. As the people’s representatives have paid no attention to the development of the village, as many as 60 families have already migrated to other places.

The village was earlier under Madupalli village panchayat. However, as Madupalli was merged in Madhira Nagara Panchayat, even Annayipalem acquired the status of Nagara Panchayat. Though there has been an elevation in the status of Annayipalem, problems of the villagers remain unsolved. The villagers regret that though they make several rounds to the government offices and offices of people’s representatives, the officials or the elected representatives do not bother to solve their problems.

Due to lack of basic amenities like drinking water and power supply, some villagers prefer to stay under trees at Annayipalem. The residents of Annayipalem pointed out that due to lack of education, their children have no option except doing manual jobs to eke out a living.
