Greyhounds on the way to Nallamala forests for combing operations
There are unconfirmed reports of the special Greyhound police launching combing operation. While the Maoists are slowly regaining their ground deep in Nallamala forests, Janasakti Naxalites have made a comeback in urban areas in the district. The exchange of fire between the police and the Janasakti Naxalites near Belum caves indicates that the extremist groups have been helping each other in establishing bases once again in the forest. The exchange of gunfire took place when the Janasakti Naxalites summoned a contractor to Belum caves and demanded Rs 50 lakh from him for the party fund. The police reportedly tracked the movements of the Naxalites through phone tapping. This group is reportedly extorting money from contractors. Following the exchange of fire between the police and Janasakti Naxalites on Sunday, two extremists were taken into custody. The arrest of the Naxalites helped the police find out that the extremist groups established safe havens in Atmakuru, Bandi Atmakuru, Narayanapuram, Omkaram, Mahanandi and Ahobilam forest area in Srisailam constituency. Apart from it, the movements of Maoists in some some area along the course of Krishna river were also noticed, the police said.
