17 companies supplying quality seeds to farmers, Rural Development Minister Kimidi Mrunalini here on Wednesday distributed maize seeds to the farmers who lost crop in the recent Hudhud cyclone.

Vizianagaram: Rural Development Minister Kimidi Mrunalini here on Wednesday distributed maize seeds to the farmers who lost crop in the recent Hudhud cyclone.
At a programme organised at Buchhennakoneru market, the minister distributed four kg of maize seeds free of cost to each farmer. Out of 6,200 farmers, nearly 3,300 lost the maize crop.
On a call from the Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu to help farmers, about 17 companies came forward to supply the quality seeds through National Seed Association. She asked the farmers to take advantage of this opportunity and get good results. She thanked the representatives of various companies which came forward to supply the seeds.
District Collector MM Nayak asked the officials to enumerate the details of the farmers who suffered losses.
Compensation would be provided to all the farmers in a short period of time, he added. He also asked plantation farmers to apply under Employment Guarantee Act for developing farms. “There is a good suitable condition for growing maize crop in the district on par with paddy and also a good market”, said the Collector. Seeds worth Rs 74 lakh were being distributed to the farmers freely. The distribution process would finish in three days, he added.
Representatives of various companies said that the cost of seeds was Rs 1.55 crore which they would distribute in the three districts of North Andhra.
Minister visits Kanaka Mahalakshmi temple
Minister Kimidi Mrunalini, along with her husband, visited Kanaka Mahalakshmi temple located in Cheepurapalli on Wednesday. She inaugurated doors of ‘Garbhagudi’ which was being reconstructed with CGF funds.
Later, she offered prayers at the temple and asked officials to complete the reconstruction works before Sankrantri festival.
Homes for Govt staff thru Housing Board
Houses would be sanctioned to the low and medium level state government employees through Housing Board, said Minister Kimidi Mrunalini here on Wednesday.
About 20 acres of land was identified at Andhra University campus area in Vizianagaram. One-bedroom house will have 650 sq feet and two-bedroom house will have 1000 sq ft area. The Housing Board constructs good quality houses for a reasonable rate, she added. She urged the employees to get benefitted from this opportunity.
