He contested elections and became the MLA and is regarded as the right hand man of the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.

However, many are wondering whether Balakrishna who is seen playing lead roles on the silver screen will play only second fiddle to Chandrababu in politics. Nandamuri fans would love to see him as the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh just like his father. However, with Andhra Pradesh divided, he can aspire to become the chief minister of Andhra.
But the question is will Chandrababu ever let that happen. The answer may not be in the positive as the TDP chief will never give up his CM post and is already grooming his son Lokesh as a leader in Telangana state. It has to be remembered that Chandrababu hatched a coup to topple Balakrishna's father NTR from CM post. Will Balakrishna be content and happy to play second fiddle to Chandrababu and Lokesh? This will only disappoint his fans.
