Vijayawada: The United Electricity Employees Union (UEEU), affiliated to the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), staged dharna at the APSPDCL Superintending Engineer's office here on Tuesday demanding regula risation of the services of contract workers. Speaking at the dharna camp, union city general secretary G Kanakalingeswara Rao alleged that the TDP Government had failed to fulfil its poll promise of regularising the services of all contract workers in the State. The government, which promised to pay 10 per cent Interim Relief to all employees, had not initiated any measures in this regard so far. The PRC should be extended to all the contract employees working in power utilities, he demanded. The other demands of the union include filling of vacant operator posts, payment of minimum wages to meter-readers and bill-collectors and extension of social welfare benefits to the contract workers. UEEU city unit president D Mahesh Babu, Krishna district honorary president T Prabhu Das, CITU district general secretary DV Krishna, city secretary Sudhakar and other leaders participated in the dharna.
