Jangareddygudem (West Godavari): A major disaster was averted after a chemical tanker on its way from Hyderabad to Visakhapatnam turned upside down at Koyyalagudem in West Godavari district on Wednesday as the police swiftly swung into action, cordoned off the area and took precautionary measures to avert the possible explosion.

The tanker was carrying highly inflammable chemical Methyl Acetamide which automatically catches fires if the temperature rises above 60 degree centigrade. The vehicle was moving at great speed and the driver lost control over the vehicle while negotiating a curve.

The locals who noticed that the chemical was leaking from the vehicle, alerted police. The Police took the accident spot into their control and roped in fire tenders and rescue teams.

As a petrol bunk was located near the accident site, police took precautionary measures and diverted traffic. Experts from Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam arrived at the spot to prevent explosions.
