Rumblings in TDP over Konathala’s likely entry, Former Minister Konathala Ramakrishna’s efforts to join the TDP have fuelled tension in the ruling party.

  • Minister for Panchayat Raj Ayyanna Patrudu is trying to rope in Ramakrishna
  • Another Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao is making all efforts to prevent former YSRCP leader from entering the party

Visakhapatnam: Former Minister Konathala Ramakrishna’s efforts to join the TDP have fuelled tension in the ruling party. Two Ministers – Ch Ayyanna Patrudu and Ganta Srinivas Rao – are vying with each in establishing their supremacy.

Ramakrishna quit the YSRCP recently. He was one of the important spokesperson of the party. He criticised YSRCP president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy before announcing his resignation from the party.

Ayyanna Patrudu is desperately trying to rope in Ramakrishna into the party fold to check the domination of Srinivasa Rao, who appears to be gaining upperhand.

Srinivasa Rao was elected on the TDP ticket from Anakapalle Lok Sabha constituency in 1999 and later became MLA from the same constituency after he joined Praja Rajyam Party in 2009 elections. He was elected from Chodavaram Assembly segment on TDP in 2004 elections. By the virtue of his long-standing relationship with two constituencies, he made a foray into powerful Gavara community to which Ramakrishna belongs. Srinivasa Rao was successful in overthrowing long- standing leader of the community Dadi Veerabhadra Rao who served as Minister in N T Rama Rao cabinet.

“Only Ramakrishna can isolate Srinivasa Rao from the community,’’ said Dadi Eswara Rao, a close aide of Patrudu. Speculation is rife that Ayyanna Patrudu has offered Visakhapatnam mayoral post to Ramakrishna. However, Srinivasa Rao is said to be devising a strategy to prevent Ramakrishna’s entry into the party.
