Hyderabad: Keeping in view of the future requirements of power due to expected huge investments from national and international agencies, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Friday unveiled a mega plan for the generation of 15,869 MW additional power in the next five years.
Reviewing the upcoming power projects and requirements of power in future with the officials, he directed them to prepare modalities to expedite the construction of power projects to meet the increasing demand which is expected to be around 15 per cent .
As per the plans, 3,240 MW of power would be generated from thermal plants, 1,949 MW from Central Generating Stations (CGS), 3,150 MW from Solar, 7,030 MW from wind and 500 MW of power would be generated from other sources by 2018-19.
Stating that Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave top priority to AP in all Central government schemes including Power For All (24X7), he said Modi also shown the same gesture by allocating 4,000 MW National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) plant to the State at Pudimadaka in Visakhapatnam district.
“I had to rigorously pursue with the then PM Atal Bikari Vajpayee for getting 100 per cent allocation of power from Simhadri plant. I even disturbed Vajpayee during midnight to apprise the PM on the necessity of 100 per cent of allocation (dedicated project) from Simhadri plant to AP, which enabled to enter the agreement for the same in February, 1997, a memorable day in my life,” CM said.
Naidu said the government was committed to provide quality, reliable, affordable power under Power For All (PFA) scheme in a sustainable manner.
He hoped that with the collective efforts of all stakeholders, the AP power sector would achieve targeted generation capacity in a time-bound manner. State Chief Secretary I Y R Krishna Rao, Secretary to CM Ajay Jain and AP Genco and Transco CMD K Vijayanand were also present.
