Kakinada (East Godavari): Chandranna Sankranthi Kanuka Sambaralu will be celebrated at Ananda Bharathi ground here on January 9.

Kakinada city MLA Vanamadi Venkateswara Rao said all arrangements were being made for conducting the event.


The MLA held a review meeting with officials of different departments and members of women self-help groups on Tuesday. He said provisions worth Rs 220 would be distributed to white ration cardholders. Half kg red gram, half litre palm oil, half kg jaggery and 100 grams ghee are among the items which would be supplied under the pack. The MLA said Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu introduced the programme to help the poor to have food with special dishes during the Sankranthi festival. He also said rangoli and other competitions would be conducted for women representing different divisions from 1 pm to 6 pm. Games like musical chairs, lemon and spoon, tug of war and cooking competitions would also be conducted. Competitions in fancy dress and Antyakshari will also be conducted. Kabaddi competitions will be held for men. The MLA said arrangements were also being made for organising various cultural events including Gangireddula dance, Garaga Nrutyam, Kolatam and Tappeta Gullu. Venkateswara Rao appealed to the officials of various departments to take measures for the success of Chandranna Sankranthi Samburalu. He called upon women and people from all the 50 divisions in Kakinada to take part in the celebrations in large numbers and make it a success.

Kakinada RDO B R Ambedkar, Municipal Commissioner S Govinda Swamy, DSP Venkateswara Rao, DPRO M Francis, municipal executive engineer Suryanarayana, ICDS PO Savithri, officials of different departments and members of DWCRA groups attended the meeting.
