Payakaraopet (Visakhapatnam): Property worth Rs 3 crore was reduced to ashes in the flames erupted due to a blast at the co-generation plant of Etikoppaka Co-op Sugar Factory at Darlapudi village in S Rayavaram mandal late Tuesday night. However, the plant operator on-duty Sitarama Raju who noticed the flames alerted the other workers. The workers putt out the flames with sand and completely shut down the power supply before the fire tenders reached the spot.

Factory Managing Director Victor Raju, who visited the factory. said due to leakage of oil, the accident happened. On receipt of information, fire tenders from Nakkapalli, Narsipatnam, Yelamanchili and Tuni rushed to the spot and put out the flames. Revenue Divisional Officer Surya Rao, MLA Vangalapudi Anitha and MPP Vinodraju visited the blast site and enquired about the damages.
