Andhra Pradesh CM flags off new police vehicles
The police in Andhra Pradesh have got enhanced mobility with the acquisition of 2,383 vehicles at a cost of Rs 100 crore. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu formally flagged off a fleet of 78 new vehicles at a programme held at Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation Stadium in the city on Monday.

Vijayawada: The police in Andhra Pradesh have got enhanced mobility with the acquisition of 2,383 vehicles at a cost of Rs 100 crore. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu formally flagged off a fleet of 78 new vehicles at a programme held at Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation Stadium in the city on Monday.
Speaking on the occasion, Director General of Police J V Ramudu said the new vehicles would certainly improve the mobility of police. “Mobility is essential for better policing. The vehicles have several advanced technical features. Several special purpose vehicles are among the new fleet. We are planning to promote transparency in the functioning of police by installing CCTV cameras at all police stations. Our aim is to adopt new technology for better policing,’’ the DGP said.
The new vehicles were allotted to 854 Law and Order police stations, 360 DSPs and 746 Circle Inspectors in 13 districts for patrolling, Rakshak, VIP escort and other purposes. Some of the newly-acquired vehicles would be made bulletproof for special operations. Of total 2,383 vehicles acquired by the police, as many as 1,190 were two- wheelers, 26 Boleros, 23 Innovas and Ford Eco Sport vehicles, 27 multi-combination vehicles, a troop carrier and a bus. Some of the vehicles would be used as ambulances, he said. When asked about the progress of marine police stations, the DGP said the work to set up 15 marine police stations was under way.
