A slew of reforms to speed up the functioning of Revenue Department

Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh State has decided either to repeal or amend the existing revenue laws which are not being implemented and have become redundant. This was disclosed by the Deputy Chief Minister (Revenue), K E Krishna Murthy, while addressing a press conference here on Wednesday.

He said a slew of reforms in the Revenue Department would be taken up to speed up the functioning of the department, as well as to bring certain changes in the legal lexicon being used in the land records and revenue collections.

For this purpose, the government has asked the Centre for Innovation and Public Services to study the issue and submit a report. A committee headed by a former Revenue official would tour the State and interact with all sections of people, officials, peoples’ representatives on these initiatives and their suggestions would also be incorporated while bringing necessary reforms, he added.

Out of about 59 lakh land owners in the State, so far around two lakh had applied for the issue of e-pass books of land ownership. However, so far only around 20,000 have been issued, and the others were returned for want of more information for the issue of e-pass books.

Krishna Murthy said efforts were being made to reduce the time for the issue of the pass books from the current 45 days.
