Paruchuri Krishna Rao to Contest MLC Polls. Kakinada: Educationist, TDP leader and chairman of Pragati Engineering College Dr Paruchuri Krishna Rao is prepared to contest the forthcoming MLC polls from teachers’ constituency of Godavari districts on his own strength though the polls would be conducted on non-party basis.
Speaking to press persons here on Thursday, Krishna Rao said that this decision was final and he already conveyed the message to the party leadership.
It may be mentioned that Krishna Rao had evinced considerable interest to contest the Peddapuram Assembly seat in the 2014 polls and withdrew at the last moment.
“I had to withdraw as the party wanted me to do so to maintain the caste equations in the constituency,” Rao said. He also said that his decision was final and would not withdraw even if the party leadership asked him to do so. “I am prepared for the disciplinary action if the party intended to take against me,” he added. When questioned whether he took the decision as the party has given much importance to P Narayana of Narayana Educational Institutions in awarding the berth in the state cabinet, he said that Narayana was senior to him in the party and he never thought in those lines.
He said that his aim was to strengthen education in the government sector and to work for the welfare of the teaching community. In the last three decades, this sector has been neglected completely, he remarked.
He also promised to use his good offices for earmarking at least 10 per cent for education from the present 6 per cent budgetary allocation. He also promised to get health cards to teachers under government, aided, ZP and municipal schools.
This is in addition to provision of toilets to students and teachers wherever the need was noticed, he added.
