In what is described by the police as a suicide pact Eeswara Rao (31), working as a home guard at the district transport office in Chittoor, married Rajani (24) one and half years ago. Their son Ritwik had been suffering from respiratory problem since birth. The couple had taken him to many hospitals in Vellore, Chennai and Bengaluru and felt doomed following medical observation that the chances of the boy getting well were remote.


The next step they chose was the extreme path of suicide. When the neighbours broke open the doors of the house late on Monday morning the child was already dead and the couple was battling for life. They breathed last at a Government General Hospital. Why does not the government which hollers from roof to of free Medicare come to succor of such poor souls. Why does not the EMRF funds exploited by the influential is also available for them?
