TDP eyes National Party label The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in AP is seeking support from Telugu people in other southern states so as to spread its wings across the country and secure the National Party label to enhance its political leverage.

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in AP is seeking support from Telugu people in other southern states so as to spread its wings across the country and secure the National Party label to enhance its political leverage. TDP has already begun the process of tap the sizeable Telugu population in the neighbouring states – Karnataka, Opposition Telangana and Tamil Nadu.


To realize the aspirations, the TDP's Politburo decided to launch membership drive in the neighbouring states along with Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Headed by Andhra Pradesh Finance Minister and senior leader Y Ramakrishnudu, TDP has appointed a three-member committee to strategize for the party to get a national label.


Founded in 1982 by legendary actor N T Rama Rao, TDP created history in Andhra Pradesh within nine months of its formation.
