Kakinada: Women empowerment through self-reliance is being given top priority in AP, said Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu. Participating in ‘Janma Bhoomi – Manavooru’ programme organised at Chebrolu in East Godavari district on Thursday, he revealed that the capital infusion and reimbursement of interest for year on SHG loan repayments are some of the measures in this direction.


Turning towards the large gathering of women mostly from women self-help groups, he gave credit for development of family business, Heritage Foods, to his wife Bhuvaneswari. Because of her efforts the company rose to a concern spread over six States with a turnover of Rs 2,100 crore, Chandrababu said.

He complemented all women department officers, right from agriculture officer, Anganwadi supervisor and the health department staff for their efforts in overall development of farming community, village development and in health care in the village which is listed for development under smart village category.


Commenting on political issues, the Chief Minister said that the TRS engineered defection of five MLAs from TDP and offered Ministerial berths for some of them. “ How bad it looks when an MLA elected on TDP ticket is made Minister in TRS government in Telangana,” he questioned.


Turning his attention towards YSRC leader Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, he said that a person accused in 16 cases was trying to criticise him for the decisions taken for the welfare of the people particularly in Rayalaseema. “We proposed the Pattiseema propject to divert excess water going into sea as waste, to provide drinking water to Rayalaseema by diverting the waters through river Krishna,” the Chief Minister said.


Earlier on his arrival by chopper, the CM participated in Neeru-Chettu programme at the village tank. Deputy Chief Minister N Chinarajappa, Irrigation Minister and East Godavari in-charge Minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao, MLAs, MLCs and others participated. He later left for Tanuku in West Godavari district by a chopper.
