The Godavari Maha Pushkaralu concluded on a grand note in Telangana here on Saturday. The 12-day festival witnessed the greatest ever congregation of humanity in which nearly 3.5 crore pilgrims took holy dip during the period. On the concluding day various ghats reverberated with chanting of Vedic hymns as priests gave Harathi to River Godavari amidst drumbeats and bursting of crackers.

Bhadrachalam: The Godavari Maha Pushkaralu concluded on a grand note in Telangana here on Saturday. The 12-day festival witnessed the greatest ever congregation of humanity in which nearly 3.5 crore pilgrims took holy dip during the period. On the concluding day various ghats reverberated with chanting of Vedic hymns as priests gave Harathi to River Godavari amidst drumbeats and bursting of crackers.


Priests in the local temples in the presence of people’s representatives and officials took out Shobha yatra to the river before offering Harathi. Finance Minister Eatala Rajender and other dignitaries participated in the finale at Bhadrachalam. Priests performed Nadi Harathi at the main Pushkar ghat and then the Mangala Harathi at the Vaikuntha Dwaram of Lord Sita Ramachandra Swamy temple. Close to five lakh pilgrims turned up at the temple town Bhadrachalam on Saturday.

About 1.72 crore pilgrims took holy dip in 39 bathing ghats constructed in 22 places by spending Rs 150 crore across Karimnagar district. Of them, 80 lakh devotes visited Dharmapuri temple town while 60 lakh pilgrims visited Kaleshwaram. Besides from the State, pilgrims from adjacent states like Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh and Karnataka also participated in Pushkaralu.


At Nizamabad the priests and seers performed Maha Godavari Harati at Kandukurti Triveni Sangamam in Nizamabad district and at temple town Basara in Adilabad district. In Andhra Pradesh about 5 crore pilgrims from across the country took holy dip during the 12-day Pushkaralu. The celestial fete Godavari Maha Pushkaralu concluded with Harathi followed by fire crackers lighting up the sky and the laser show making the moment a memorable for everyone at Pushkar ghat.


AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu accompanied by his wife Bhuvaneswari, Baba Ramdev and ministers witnessed the vibrant spectacle. The other great event that Rajahmundry had witnessed on the concluding day of Godavari Maha Pushkarlu was Kuchipudi dance by 1,000 dancers from Kuchipudi Natyaramam organised at Government College grounds.


The cultural capital of Andhra Pradesh, Rajahmundry, wore a festive look and main junctions of the city were illuminated. Scores of people marched to the Pushkar ghat where the main festivities were conducted. Music lovers went to Rajahmundry Government Arts College where the concert of Mangalampalli Balamuralikrishna and Kuchipudi dance with 1000 artists was organised.
