Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh government has decided to save horticulture crops during the drought-like situation by taking drought-proof measures in the State, Chief Secretary I Y R Krishna Rao said. The Chief Secretary held a video conference with all the district collectors to discuss seasonal conditions in the State on Thursday alongside senior Officers from Agriculture, Panchayat Raj, Rural Water Supply, and Irrigation departments.

Due to deficit in rainfall in the State, Chief Secretary directed the district officicals concerned to form the teams with Agriculture, Horticulture Officers and scientists at district level to visit villages and to interact with farmers and to resolve their problems. Regarding crops of acid lime and sweet orange, CS permitted the district collectors to take the precautionary measures to supply the water by hiring bore wells from the owners to transport water for orchards.

It would result in life saving irrigation for acid lime and sweet lime in Anantapur, Nellore and Prakasam districts. The conference decided on drought-proof measures to be taken in all the districts to save the moisture for general agriculture like ground nut, red-gram, Bengal-gram etc. The conference decided on separate action plan to solve the drinking water problem in all the regions.

Krishna Rao directed the district officials need to focus on filling up the summer storage water tanks in all the areas to mitigate the drinking water problem, as government has already released necessary budget. Krishna Rao directed the Irrigation department officials to write to Krishna Water Board to release the water from Nagarjunasagar Project.

The Chief Secretary reviewed Handri-Niva Sujala Sravanti (HNSS) works and urged to complete the works soon as the deadline is very short to release water for irrigation in Kadapa, Anantapur and Chittoor districts for lakhs of acres. HNSS is also set to supply drinking water for a vast population.

Special Chief Secretary, Revenue, Ajeya Kallam, Principal Secretary Irrigation Adityanath Das, Special CS EFS&T Special Chief Secretary Agriculture T Vijaya Kumar and others attended.
