Guntur: Director General of Police J V Ramudu said on Thursday that police department was all set to introduce the state-of -the-art technology in policing to curb crime and adopt modern techniques in tracking crime. Speaking to reporters soon after inaugurating the newly-built Central Crime Station building here,

the DGP said that in the context of the infrastructure and new government office buildings coming up in the capital region, efforts were being made to introduce in-built fool-proof security techniques in new buildings and sky-scrapers that are likely to come up in the capital city region.

Ramudu maintained that modern technology has been introduced in crime and traffic control but the common man is yet to come to grip with the latest technology to reap the fruits of technology implementation. Unless people are made aware in this regard, the very purpose of using modern technology gets defeated, he added. There are 14,000 vacancies in the department which have to be filled but due to problems in training personnel, these vacancies cannot be filed in time.

Andhra Pradesh does not have a Police Training Academy post bifurcation and in the absence of which mass recruitments cannot be initiated, the DGP pointed out. However, DGP assured that the vacancies will be filled in a phased manner. He reaffirmed that women’s security is top on the agenda of the government and stern measures would be taken against those who indulge in crimes against women and in ragging in education institutions which of late had been taking an ugly turn.
