Rajahmundry: The Congress party will welcome Prime Minister Narendra Modi with flowers who is going to arrive in Andhra Pradesh for Bhumi Puja for the capital if he made a clear announcement on granting special category status to the State as well as providing the benefits worth Rs 5 lakh crore included in the AP State Reorganisation Act, said APCC president N Raghuveera Reddy here on Friday.
However, if he failed to do so, the Congress activists would welcome the PM with black badges, he said.Raghuveera Reddy said that Narendra Modi had failed to keep his promise on the special category status made in Tirupati, the abode of Lord Venkateswara Swamy.
The Congress activists led by PCC chief staged satyagraha deeksha seeking special category status for the State here. Senior party leaders M M Pallam Raju, K V P Ramachandra Rao, Kanumuri Bapi Raju, Kondru Murali and East Godavari district Congress president Kandula Durgesh were among those who participated.
Speaking on the occasion, Raghuveera Reddy made it clear that all parties were responsible for the bifurcation of the State. He said the Congress was the last party to take a decision in favour of State division in inevitable circumstances.
Stating that the bifurcation was done as per the Constitution, the PCC chief said the onus was now on the Central government to implement the assurances given in the Reorganisation Act.
Pointing out that nine Congress-ruled States in the country had given their nod for special category status for AP, he questioned the BJP why the 10 ruled by it had failed to endorse the proposal.
