Visakhapatnam: Entire Visakha city on Friday bid a tearful adieu to the six-year-old child C Sai Lavanya Adithi at the Seetammadhara burial ground, where the funeral took place. Hundreds of women were seen weeping as if they have lost their own child, while blaming the government’s apathy on open drains.
Adithi who was slipped into a drain while coming from the tuition centre, was swept away in the flash floods following heavy downpour a week ago near VS Krishna Government College and her body was traced at Bhogapuram beach in Vizianagaram district on Thursday evening.
Her father C Srinivas identified the body with the dress and earrings and at once collapsed senseless for some time and later was consoled by other family members.
The mutilated body was handed over to the family members on Friday after conducting post-mortem at the King George Hospital, where a large number of people gathered discussing the child’s missing mystery which resulted in her death at last. Many people who gathered on either side of the roads in front of Adithi’s house paid homage with folded hands and shedding tears and later joined the funeral procession.
On hearing the death news, her paternal grandmother Sita, ailing from heart enlargement problem, was shifted to a local corporate hospital while maternal grandparents who are in United States were also not aware of the fact that Adithi is no more. Visitors,
friends and women have shed tears at Adithi’s residence in Seetammadhara while noticing the way Adithi’s father Srinivas consoling his wife, who was weeping inconsolably.
Former Deputy Mayor Malla Appalaraju and Ajay Sarma of CPM visited the residence and consoled the parents stating that the void could not be filled.
“We came to know about the missing of a little child a week back and since then not only our family members but also our neighbours were regularly watching the media reports and at once we all were dumbstruck when the media aired the news confirming the death of Adithi.
We demand the government to take appropriate steps in maintaining the open drains at all vulnerable areas and see that no other parent suffers like this,” thundered Beesetti Kanthamma of Allipuram area.
Another resident of HB Colony, G Srinivas alleged that it was unfortunate that no official attended the funeral of Adithi.
