Vijayawada: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu asked the agricultural officials to evolve a strategy to mitigate the suffering of the farmers in drought hit mandals.

He said an action plan shall be prepared with focus on improving the income of the farming community through different measures like dairy, sheep farming in addition to agriculture.

He asked the officials to create awareness among the farmers of not resorting to commercial crops by borrowing at higher rates and told the officials to promote community feeling by strengthening Rytu Mitra Groups.

The Chief Minister stressed the need for promoting famers' organisations at village, mandal and district levels on the lines of women groups and assured of government support with funding and policy initiatives.

Referring to tenant farmers, Naidu highlighted the need to protect the interest of both the owner and tenant. He favoured the loan disbursement to be reviewed at frequent intervals.

He directed the officials to set up “distress fund” with Rytu Sadhikara Samstha to take up these initiatives in select mandals where agriculture is in distress.
