Visakhapatnam: Under the ‘Housing for All’ Scheme of the Centre, the State has been sanctioned 1,92,000 houses for low income groups. These houses will come up in 59 towns and cities in the State.

Union Urban Development Minister M venkaiah Naidu disclosed this at a press conference here on Friday. He said that the AP government was the first State to respond to the Centre’s initiative, and hence the first to get sanction. For the purpose of execution of the programme, the State government would enter into memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Centre, he added.

“This is the highest ever sanctions got by the AP, under any project, since independence,” he said and added that other States too will get their due upon submitting proposals eventually. Accordingly, 2176 houses were sanctioned for Srikakulam town, Palasaand, Amudalavalasa. Similarly, 4712 houses would come up in Bobbili, Vizianagaram, Saluru and Nellimerla.

As many as 26 housing projects would come up in Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation area with 9,108 houses. Besides, 27 housing projects comprising 20, 030 housing units would come up exclusively in Vishakapatnam city, he informed.

Claiming that the Narendra Modi government was able to fulfill the 90 per cent of poll promises so far, he admitted that special status for the State was the only pending issue. “The issue is being dealt with by Niti Aayog and other highest decision-making bodies of the NDA government,” he added.

Deputy Chief Minister N Chinarajappa was also present at the press conference.
