Anantapur: The 93rd jayanti of ‘Ganagandharva’ Ghantasala Venkateswara Rao was celebrated on a grand scale by the residents of Chandrababu Naidu Colony in the presence of Minister Palle Raghunatha Reddy, local MLA Vykuntam Prabhakar Chowdary, Mayor Madamanchi Swaroopa and Deputy Mayor Gampanna.

The Minister and other VIPs garlanded Ghantasala’s portrait and paid floral tributes. Palle praised the late singer as the ‘pride of Telugus’, who devoted his life to music and rendered memorable songs to earn a permanent place in their hearts. He said the songs by Ghantasala in memorable films like ‘Malliswari, ‘Pathala Bhairavi’ were all-time hits. Besides, he had scored music for many movies. ‘He has the sole credit of singing over 50,000 unforgettable numbers in many films’, the Minister stated.

Palle said the government was celebrating as State festivals the jayanties of Alluri Sitarama Raju, Tanguturi Prakasam Pantulu, Kandukuri Veeresalingam, Gidugu Ramamurthy, Gurajada Appa Rao and Ghantasala.

The MLA pointed out that any description of the famed singer’s rendering was insufficient. ‘Ghantasala thrilled listeners with his sweet and unforgettable songs. ‘His memory will remain forever in the hearts of music-lovers’. He lauded the government’s decisions to celebrate the singer’s jayanti.Anantapur Agricultural Market Yard Chairman Adinarayana was among those present.
