SP M Ravi Prakash lauds their role as auxiliary force
Kakinada: The 53rd Raising Day of Home Guards was celebrated with fanfare and gaiety at Police Parade Grounds here on Sunday.
As part of celebrations, the Home Guards conducted an impressive parade as East Godavari Superintendent of Police M Ravi Prakash inspected the guard of honour.
Addressing the gathering, he said the Home Guards was started as a voluntary organisation, and later their services came to be utilised under the name of Home Guards in 1962 as per an order of the Central government to State governments. Since then they were performing multifarious duties, he said, and lauded the role of home guards as auxiliary force to the police in maintenance of internal security, performing various duties, and helping the community in any kind of emergency.
The SP said at present the Home Guards were working as drivers in crime wing, computer operators, and receptionists. Their services during festivals, rallies, meetings, and public agitations were indeed laudable, he added.
The SP said the government was taking necessary steps for the welfare of the Home Guards. He said the force strength of the police is inadequate if one considers the size of the population and the number of crimes reported, but this is compensated for by the Home Guards.
The SP, hailing the services of the Home Guards in traffic regulation and crowd control, commended them for their commitment and dedication. He pointed out the Home Guards served as an auxiliary to the police. He said that the Home Guards were a bridge between the people and the police.
Additional SPs A R Damodar, Y Ravisekhar Reddy lauded the role played by the Home Guards in bringing down the crime rate including that of prohibition offences in the district through night patrols.
