Fresh ration cards on Sankranti eve

Officials of the Civil Supplies Department in East Godavari district will be providing 1.65 lakh new ration cards on the eve of Sankranti. The move was aimed at fulfilling the long-pending wish of the applicants. With this addition, the number of the white ration cards will cross 16.5 lakh. At present, 14. 89 lakh cards are in use.
Kakinada: Officials of the Civil Supplies Department in East Godavari district will be providing 1.65 lakh new ration cards on the eve of Sankranti. The move was aimed at fulfilling the long-pending wish of the applicants. With this addition, the number of the white ration cards will cross 16.5 lakh. At present, 14. 89 lakh cards are in use.
According to Civil Supplies sources, pending representations of ration cards mounted to 1.86 lakh for the last one-and-a-half-years as there were no fresh issue of cards after the TDP came to power.
According to revenue department sources, the mode of inclusion of these new applicants will be decided in the next few days. It will also be decided on whether to issue ration cards directly or issue coupons for supply of commodities issued under the Public Distribution System.
It is said that the authorities are contemplating to take up special drive to check the number of card holders as the number exceeded 85 percent of the population.
