Sri Durga Malleswara Swamyvarla Devasthanam atop Indrakeeladri here is gearing up to conduct relinquishment of 41-day Bhavani Deeksha from December 31 to January 4, according to Temple Executive Officer Ch Narsing Rao.

Talking to newsmen at Bhavani Mandapam here on Monday, Narsing Rao said that the devasthanam was making foolproof arrangements with an estimated cost of Rs 4 crore at the bathing ghats and other places to ensure hassle-free movement of the Bhavani devotees after their relinquishment. All the bathing ghats, including Durga ghat, Punnami ghat, Padmavathi ghat, Sitammavari Padalu ghat, and Dobhi ghat were being spruced up for the relinquishment. Showers, dress-changing rooms, tonsuring places, chappal stands, cloak rooms, toilets and first-aid would be provided by the temple at all the ghats. Barricading of queue lines had already been started and it would be completed in the next two to three days, he said.

The EO said that ‘Agni Pratishtapana’ would begin at 7 am on December 31 and the devotees will be allowed to have the darshan of the presiding deity. “We are placing iron barricades from Sri Vinayaka Temple on Canal Road to the Durga temple,” he said. Efforts are on to provide sufficient parking areas and counters for sale of ‘prasadam’ at Sri Kanaka Durga Nagar. The temple will provide free bus facility from the railway and bus stations to Bhavani ghat and Punnami ghat for every half-an-hour. A huge ‘homa gundam’ is constructed on Arjuna Veedhi. Agni ‘prathisthapana’, Sata Chandi ‘homam’ and other rituals will be conducted as part of Deeksha relinquishment. The temple authorities have planned to put up four ‘homa gundams’-- one at Jammidoddi and three near Mahamandapam,” he said.
He urged the devotees to do ‘giri pradakshina’ taking precautionary measures as the road from toll gate to Kummaripalem was in a bad shape before relinquishing the deekhsa. Kalasa Jyoti rally would be taken out in a procession starting at 5 pm at Sri Sivaramanama Kshetram on December 24 and reach the temple the same night, he said.

Narsing Rao further said that for the first time, temple management had entrusted the duty of relinquishing the Bhavani Deeksha to the Guru Bhavanis. “We have opted the decision after understanding the beliefs of the devotees.” He made it clear that temple management would only monitor the facilities and would not involve in the relinquishment act.
