Srikakulam: Displaced persons of Vamsadhara reservoir embarked on padayatra in Gotta, Subhalaya, Korada, Chinnakollivalasa, Peddakollivalasa, Sankili, Duggupuram, Padali and other affected villages in Hira mandal on Tuesday under the aegis of CPM.

Speaking on the occasion, CPM State executive member Ch Tejeswara Rao said that the main aim of padayatra is to explain problems of displaced persons to the government.

He flayed the district officials’ indifferent attitude in settling the problems of the displaced people relating to rehabilitation and resettlement (R&R) package.

CPM district secretary B Krishnamurhty found fault with the officials for taking unilateral decisions without considering issues raised by the displaced families in all the affected villages due to reservoir construction.

The CPM leaders said that they will hold a public meeting in Hira mandal headquarters on Wednesday to discuss future course of action.
They appealed to all the displaced people to attend the public meeting and express their opinion on mounting pressure on the government to get better R&R package. Mandal-level CPM leaders G Simhachalam and K Narayana Rao spoke on the occasion.
