GITAM University will be hosting two international events Gandhi drama and Asian Philosophy Congress from January 16 to 21 on the campus premises with focus on youth.
Visakhapatnam: GITAM University will be hosting two international events-Gandhi drama and Asian Philosophy Congress from January 16 to 21- on the campus premises with focus on youth. A large number of students from across the country will take part in the unique Gandhian Mela with symposia, workshops, panel discussions, exhibitions, cultural events, screening of films and entertainment programmes, all focused on Gandhiji.
Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, GITAM Chancellor Padmasri Prof K Ramakrishna Rao told reporters that it was first held at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi in 2012 and second time GITAM University is hosting the events. He said that Mahatma Gandhi’s ideas, life and work are still relevant particularly Mahatma’s message of truth, non-violence and selfless service holds the key in bringing peace in today’s troubled world.
The Gandhi drama, he said is more than an event to remember Gandhi and it is a concerted effort to heighten awareness about Gandhian thought among youth. The Vice-Chancellor informed that GITAM is also hosting the Second Asian Philosophy Congress from January 19 at the same venue for which not only delegates from Asian countries, but also philosophers from America and Europe are taking part.
He said that there was an overwhelming response for the events in which 800 delegates, including 50 delegates and guests from the United Kingdom, the US, Canada, Czech Republic, Russia, China, Ghana and Turkey, will participate. The inaugural event of Gandhi drama will be attended by Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs M Venkaiah Naidu, Minister of State for Culture and Tourism Mahesh Sharma, Medical and Health Minister K Srinivas, local Ministers Ch Ayyanna Patrudu, Ganta Srinivasa Rao, MP K Hari Babu and MLC Dr MVVS Murthi.
Similarly, the inaugural event of the Second Asian Philosophy Congress will be attended by Chancellor of Banaras Hindu University Karan Singh, Information and Public Relations Minister Palle Raghunatha Reddy, Member, Central Hindi Committee Dr Y Lakshmi Prasad and Advisor (IT), Government of AP
JA Choudary.
Prof Ramakrishna Rao informed that they are also organising a plenary session on January 16 as part of Gandhi drama to discuss ‘Political extremism, religious fundamentalism and Gandhi’s non-violence in which K Padmanabaiah, HJ Dora, Jaya Prakash Narayan and Amit Garg will participate.
Vice-Chancellor Prof G Subrahmanyam, Prof Vice-Chancellor Prof D Harinarayana, Andhra University Registrar Prof V Umamaheswara Rao, GITAM Registrar Prof M Potharaju, Prof K Sivarama Krishna and Director of Centre for Gandhian Studies Dr B Nalini were present at the press meet.
