Vijayawada: The Sankaranti festival is fast approaching. But there is no festival ambience in capital region villages as there was no cultivation and the farm workers were deprived of livelihood. In addition, the release of draft master plan also raised several doubts among villagers over the existence of their villages as several roads are shown passing through their villages and fields. The debate on master plan has turned as prime subject for villagers as uncertainty prevails in the capital region villages, though rest of the villages in Andhra Pradesh are agog with festival atmosphere.

A farmer, A Jaya Rao of Tallayapalem village, said that villagers were busy in discussing on the existence of their fields or houses as the government released draft master plan of Amaravati capital. He said that the villagers were against the master plan and decided to raise objections during awareness programmes scheduled to be conducted by CRDA officials in capital region villages from January 12.

When the reporter asked about the Sankranti festival, another villager P Nageswara Rao of Uddandarayapalem shot back by asking where was the festival atmosphere? Now villagers are worried over the existence of their lands and villages as a number of roads are seen passing through the villages in the draft master plan released by the government.

The villagers are getting ready to question the CRDA officials by raising objections on the draft master plan. Meanwhile, the CRDA officials are planning to organise awareness meetings on draft master plan in capital region villages from January 12 to 20. The officials are making exercise to convince the villagers. It may be noted that the farmers who did not offer their lands under land pooling staged protest at CRDA office in Vijayawada recently over earmarking the roads through their villages. They said that if the government lay roads as per master plan they may lose their houses and fields in a big way. CPM Capital Region Committee convener Ch Babu Rao said that villagers are preparing to raise objections in CRDA meetings to be organsied from Tuesday.
