Even a day after Sankranti, cock fights continued on Sunday for the fourth consecutive day. The punters as usual tried their luck by investing huge sums of money into these fights.

Eluru: Even a day after Sankranti, cock fights continued on Sunday for the fourth consecutive day. The punters as usual tried their luck by investing huge sums of money into these fights. The cock fights are being held in various parts of West Godavari, defying the High Court and Lokayukta orders for last three days (Bogi to Kanuma).

The punters had placed bets to the tune of Rs.350 crore at 400 rings in the district. The allied activities like game of dice and cards game were also conducted during the three days. The gaming spree continued on fourth day at Koppaka village in Pedavegi mandal, Gundugolanu in Bhimadole mandal, Kolleru bed villages in Eluru, Nidamarru, Akiveedu mandals, Ai.Bhimavaram village in Akiveedu Mandal.

The organisers conducted the fight and the allied activities in around 30 rings in the villages. The gamblers queued to these rings for betting. As Sunday is Mukkanuma, liquor has flooded these rings. Highly influenced persons also attended the rooster fight in various villages. The fight was conducted till five in the evening. Later, the card game and dice game had begun, according to information. No police was seen in these areas.
