Vijayawada: In what appears to be a damage control exercise, the Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Monday held a meeting with some Ministers and directed them to counter the criticism of the government’s alleged failure in handling Kapu Garjana at Tuni that had turned violent. He reportedly expressed his displeasure over the failure of the party and Ministers in countering the criticism by opposition parties.

The Chief Minister is reportedly expressed his displeasure with the Deputy Chief Minister N Chinarajappa, Minister for Municipal Administration Dr P Narayana, Minister for Endowments, P Manikyala Rao and other Kapu leaders for not convincing the community on the party’s contribution.

He said he had appointed a commission and created a corporation for the Kapus, which the previous governments had not done. “There are legal issues related to the reservations. There are also financial constraints. In spite of all these, I have created a corporation to extend financial help and constituted a commission to study the issue,” he reportedly told the Ministers and wanted them to check why and where they have failed to take the message to the people.

“We have done so much to the community, which no one had done so far since 1956. But, we have failed to take the message to the people,” he had learnt to have said. He further recalled how the party had made a Kapu leader, K Kala Venkata Rao, as the party Andhra Pradesh unit president, another Kapu MLA Bonda Umamaheswara Rao as the party national spokesperson, made Nimmakayala Chinarajappa as Deputy Chief Minister with the portfolio of Home Affairs and Dr P Narayana as the Minister for Municipal Administration holding key role in the new capital Amaravati development.

The Chief Minister who had sought to point an accusing finger at the Opposition Leader Y S Jaganmohan Reddy on the previous day is learnt to have directed the Kapu leaders in the party to hold both Jaganmohan Reddy and Mudragada Padmanabham equally responsible for the violence in Tuni. Interestingly, it was after this meeting that both Chinarajappa and Dr Narayana directed their criticism against Jaganmohan Reddy and Padmanabham for the incident.

Naidu had reportedly told the Ministers to campaign extensively on the initiatives of the Telugu Desam government and try to convince Kapus and dilute the movement for the reservations. He had reportedly told the Kapu leaders of the party to ensure that the Kapu reservation movement is slowed down and does not create problems for the party in future.
