Kirlampudi (East Godavari): The Kapu leader Mudragada Padmanabham will launch his indefinite fast from Friday morning. Ruling TDP leaders’ efforts to convince him to call off the fast did not fructify. Late on Thursday night, three TDP Kapu leaders Thota Trimurtulu, Bonda Umamheswar Rao and Boddu Bhaskar Rao met Padmanabham and explained to him about the measures being taken by the government to implement the promise of including Kapus in the BC list.

They told him that the government was committed to the assurance it had given to the Kapus at the time of elections. It is learnt that Padmanabham had demanded that the government should ensure that the Justice Manjunath commission submits its report within three months and that the government should immediately release Rs 2000 crore for the Kapu corporation.

However, it is not known if he had assured them that he would call off the fast if the government agrees to these two demands or not. When asked, the TDP leaders said they were not sent by the government to hold talks with Padmanabham but they came on their own to explain to him about the developments from the government side. Meanwhile, emotions were running high near the residence of Padmanabham.

The Kapu leader waited all the day for any representation from the government and the government did not respond to his ultimatum. Speaking to reporters on Thursday afternoon, he said that he was ready for talks with the government, but the government did not respond.

Replying to a question on the government holding talks with Kapu leaders, he said the government is giving medicine somewhere while the infection was elsewhere. He called on his followers not to come to his residence as anti-social elements might create problems.

Commenting on the Cabinet sub-committee and release of Rs 1,000 crore for the Kapu corporation, he made it clear that reservation for the Kapu community was his foremost priority. Leaders from all over the district as well as from other districts gathered at the residence of Mudragada and several YSRCP leaders, including former MLA Dwarampudi Chandrasekhar Reddy, also met him.
