Chittoor: District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO) Dr Koteswari said elaborate arrangements were made to conduct deworming programme in all the schools across the district on Wednesday. She said that 6.65 lakh students would be covered under the programme.
Instructions were given to medical and nursing staff to cover all the areas including slums and rural habitations, she added. Speaking to The Hans India here on Tuesday, the DMHO said that an enumeration was held in the district.
According to enumeration, 2.35 lakh students in 4,768 Anganwadi centres; 1.66 lakh students in 3,910 primary schools; 41,473 students in 3,910 upper primary schools; 1.76 lakh students in 644 high schools; 27,638 students in 58 junior colleges and 17,650 students from private institutions were identified for deworming.
The DMHO assured of no side effects after administering the Albendazole syrup or tablet to the students. She informed medical officials and staff to administer syrup or tablet only after students had their lunch in schools.
She said that District Collector Siddharth Jain instructed District Educational Officer, ICDS Project Officer, DWMA Project Director, RWS Superintending Engineer and other district officials to extend their cooperation for making success of the deworming drive.
She said that Albendazole syrup would be administered to the children in the age group of 1 to 5 years and Albendazole tablet-400 mg to the students in the age group of 5 to 19 years.
The DMHO further said that the deworming camps would be set up in all the Anganwadi centres and educational institutions in the district while steps have been taken to supply adequate drugs.
Administering deworming syrup or tablets to the children would be the best medication to keep them healthy and free from diseases, she asserted.
