Anantapur: Minister Palle Raghunatha Reddy on Friday expressed confidence of completing the Handri-Neeva Sujala Sravanti Project at the earliest to make Anantapur district lush green, as the government is ready to allot any required amount. There is no shortage of funds, he asserted while addressing the broad-based Zilla Parishad meeting here.

The Minister stated that simultaneously the High Level Canal project would be modernised for diverting 32.5 tmc ft from the Tungabhadra. He said by utilising the Neeru-Pragathi scheme and digging one lakh farm ponds under the Panta Sanjeevini programme the entire drought-prone district would be made flush with
abundant groundwater.

Palle revealed that efforts were on to increase the revenue from horticulture production in 1.5 lakh acres every year from Rs 3,300 crore to Rs 6,000 crore. He asked the officials to ensure that there is no shortage of drinking water by taking up advance strategies. The government would ensure that there is no problem of drinking water by overcoming issues pertaining to Sriramreddy, Handri-Neeva and J C Nagireddy projects.

A meeting of the district MLAs and Ministers would be held shortly with the officials during the ensuing Assembly session to finalise steps for providing drinking water to villages, he said. He asked the RWS officials to take steps for providing water supply from the Chitravati Balancing Reservoir to the remaining 400 villages in Puttaparthi, Dharmavaram and Kadiri constituencies, as the supply was being made to 600 villages.

Palle said Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu would lay the foundation for Rs 2,000 crore Ragamayuri Elsina Electronic Industry near Kodikonda on February 25, along with Hindupur MLA N Balakrishna.

Among those present were Minister Paritala Sunita, Chairman Chaman Saab, Penukonda MLA B K Parthasaradhi, Collector Kona Sasidhar and others.

Later addressing the media, Palle observed that Telugu Desam MLAs in Telangana were deserting the party for power and that no activists were joining other parties. He expressed confidence that the party would be voted to power in 2019 in Telangana.

Speaking as the chief guest at the alumni meeting in connection with the centenary celebrations of Arts College, Palle observed that good education would ensure a rosy future for students. He and local MLA Prabhakar Chowdary flagged off a bike rally of the college students and the alumni to mark the celebrations.

The rally from the college moved through NTR Circle, Srikantam Circle, Saptagiri Circle and ZP office. The MLA said the college had produced eminent persons like Damodaram Sanjeevayya. Its teachers included former Presidents Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan and Neelam Sanjiva Reddy.

Among those present were in-charge principal Padmasri, lecturers Salam, Ramesh Reddy, P D Naidu, besides teaching and non-teaching staff.
