Plant to meet water shortage

Eluru: Mayor Sheikh Noorjahan has said that a comprehensive plan would be implemented to face the acute drinking water problem in Eluru during summer.

She visited drinking water tanks of Eluru Corporation near Denduluru village on Tuesday. She inspected the water capacity of the tank. Speaking at the pump house, the Mayor said the corporation would take all necessary steps to supply drinking water twice a day to the city people during the summer.

She said that already the tanks have filled up with Godavari water which meets the needs of the people for 100 days. She said the pumping of water would continue until the Eluru Godavari canal closure.

She said at present the water level in the tank stood at 16.5 feet and said the tank has its full capacity of 3,000 million liters.

Everyday, the corporation was supplying 30 million litres of water for drinking water needs of the people. She said the Krishna water would also be lifted to drinking water tanks at Western Locks in the city. She already directed the officials to store the water in these tanks. These three tanks at Western Locks meet the needs for 45 days, she added.

Municipal Commissioner Yarra Sai Srikanth said the corporation was supplying protected water to the people in the city. He suggested the people to utilise the Godavari and Krishna canal waters for drinking needs instead of packaged drinking water.
