Pulse polio drive today
District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO) Dr Koteswari said that all arrangements are in place for effective implementation of the Pulse

Chittoor: District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO) Dr Koteswari said that all arrangements are in place for effective implementation of the Pulse Polio Immunisation (PPI) programme to be held in the district on Sunday. She pointed out that 4.06 lakh children in the age group of 0 and 5 would be administered polio drops with the cooperation of the public and the voluntary organisations.
Speaking to The Hans India here on Saturday, the DMHO said that the Collector has issued orders to the district officials to extend complete support for making the PPI programme a grand success. Over 2,873 polio camps have been set up in the district to administer oral polio drops to all the children below the age of 5, she said adding adequate polio vaccine stocks were kept ready at the polio camps in cooling boxes. Koteswari said that training has been imparted to the nursing students and medical and health staff for handling the polio centres. She ruled out side effects and reaction in children after oral polio drops were administered to them as vaccine is free from health hazards.
The DMHO said that mobile teams were in place to cover the children in slum localities and rural habitations. It has been decided to depute special officials for each Assembly constituency to monitor the implementation of the PPI programme, she said appealing to the voluntary organisations to play an active role for achieving desired results. She stated that mobile teams would visit those houses on Monday and Tuesday also in which children were not covered under the PPI programme.
No polio case has been detected in the district during the last ten years, the DMHO said declaring the district as free from polio disease. She made it clear that there is no scarcity of funds to implement the programme as the State government has already released the required funds to engage vehicles for supplying of medical equipment to the PPI centres.
