Furore erupts over setting up of municipal panel

Amaravati: Two TDP councillors clashed with each other in Tenali municipality council meeting held on Monday to select the municipal panel.

As soon as council meeting started, the TDP councillors decided to appoint panel after discussing some issues. Councillor Gummadi Ramesh requested Municipal Chairman Kottamas Tulasidas to mention names of the panel in the minutes book. He said that the panel can be constituted after following due procedure, he said.

Another TDP Councillor Trimurthy said, “First we will constitute the panel and then we will record in the minutes book.” Gummadi Ramesh raised objection and said that there is no need to violate the norms. He said that there are lot of differences in the names mentioned in the minutes book and in the panel.

Trimurthy clashed with Gummadi Ramesh and abused him. Heated arguments took place, which culminated into a quarrel. Trimurthy manhandled Ramesh in the council meeting. During the melee, Trimurthy's shirt was torn off.

However, nobody was injured. Councillors of YSRCP and TDP controlled them and brought the situation under control. Woman councillor K Santha Kumari expressed serious concern for deteriorating values of council meeting. She said any dispute can be settled amicably adding that there is no need to clash in the council hall. Later, Municipal Chairman Kottamas Tulasidas postponed the council meeting.
