Prof Muvvala Sanni Prasada Rao has been appointed as Vice-Chancellor of GITAM University. He will take charge from present Vice-Chancellor Prof G Subrahmanyam on Thursday.

Visakhapatnam: Prof Muvvala Sanni Prasada Rao has been appointed as Vice-Chancellor of GITAM University. He will take charge from present Vice-Chancellor Prof G Subrahmanyam on Thursday.

Prof Prasad Rao, who hails from Parvatipuram in Vizianagaram district, did B.Sc, M.Sc and Ph.D from Andhra University. Later, he was appointed as a lecturer at the Chemistry Department in Andhra University in 1980. He was elevated to reader’s post in 1985 and also served as Andhra University registrar from June 2002 to August 2005.

He held many responsibilities like member, Inquiry Committees of Dravidian and Telangana Universities, coordinator for Universities with Potential for Excellence and Steering Committee, Chairman, Board of Studies, Director (I/C), Academic Staff College, Director for AU Press and Publications and Convener for AUCET. He was the HoD of Inorganic and Analytical Chemistry from February 1995 to June 1998 and test coordinator (Chemistry) from 1996-97.

A specialist in inorganic chemistry, Prof Prasada Rao wrote three books (Basic Quantum Chemistry, laboratory manual for MSc chemistry students and manual for water analysis) and obtained certificates of Hindi Bhushan and diploma in German language. Eight M Phil and nine Ph D degrees were awarded under his guidance and four scholars received best thesis awards. Registrar Prof M Potharaju, deans, director, HoDs and faculty congratulated Prof Prasada Rao on the occasion.
