Thousands of devotees visit Siva temples in Nallamala

Lord Siva devotees made a beeline to the temples in the Nallamala like Omkaram, Kolanubharati, Mahanandi, Sangameswaram, Gupta Maheswaram to mark Sivaratri celebrations on Monday, which is considered dear to the Lord. They worshipped Goddess Lalitha and Lord Sangameswara after having bath on the banks of the Krishna river, which is on the border of the two telugu States.

Atmakur: Lord Siva devotees made a beeline to the temples in the Nallamala like Omkaram, Kolanubharati, Mahanandi, Sangameswaram, Gupta Maheswaram to mark Sivaratri celebrations on Monday, which is considered dear to the Lord. They worshipped Goddess Lalitha and Lord Sangameswara after having bath on the banks of the Krishna river, which is on the border of the two telugu States.

About 70,000 pilgrims from Telangana, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu offered special prayers to the deity, besides the Siva lingam in the Sangameswara temple which is stated to have been put up by Pandava King Dharmaraju. They also participated in rituals like ‘rudrabhishekam’, ‘pushaparchana’, ‘panchamrut abhishekam’, and ‘balvarchana’.

The RTC operated special services for the benefit of pilgrims. Thousands of devotees from Telangana travelled in small vessels in the Krishna to reach Sangameswaram.

In the morning, Vedic pandit Telakapalli Laghurama Sarma has performed ‘abhishekam’, ‘pushparchana’ to the deity. To mark the festival, the Sangameswara temple was tastefully decorated, including the ‘rudraksha mantapam’. With the number of devotees increasing, the temple officials suspended ‘sarva’ darshan and permitted ‘laghu’ darshan. Elders of Patasangameswaram village arranged ‘Annadanam’ programme for the benefit of visitors.
