Police bust 4-member cheating gang
Proddatur police have arrested a four-member cheating gang led by a woman and recovered Rs 50 lakh worth gold ornaments from private gold loan organisations. According to the Kadapa ASP Vijay Kumar who disclosed the details and modus operandi of the gang to media persons on Wednesday at II Town police station, said the cheating came to light only after the victim Kondaiah, a rice mill owner.
Proddatur (Kadapa): Proddatur police have arrested a four-member cheating gang led by a woman and recovered Rs 50 lakh worth gold ornaments from private gold loan organisations. According to the Kadapa ASP Vijay Kumar who disclosed the details and modus operandi of the gang to media persons on Wednesday at II Town police station, said the cheating came to light only after the victim Kondaiah, a rice mill owner, who gave complaint to SP N Gulati at his office few days back.
The main accused in the case was Vijaya (33), whose husband died a few years back, came from Kuwait in 2013 and decided to resort to cheating after forming accomplices Chandra Obul Reddy of Chinaguraluru of Chapadu mandal, Reddy Basha belonged to Proddatur, Ravindra Reddy of Nadimpalle in Proddatur for running luxurious life.
She had chosen a rice mill owner Kondaiah in Proddatur and lured him with offer of giving him gold biscuits that she could fetch from her contacts in Kuwait. Kondaiah, trusted her words and in greed to get gold lesser price, started giving them money and gold ornaments to receive biscuits in the same value.
The gang collected 3 kg gold ornaments and more than 50 lakh cash from rice miller in seven months span. Noticing suspicious behaviour of main accused Vijaya, Kondaiah approached District Superintendent of Police Naveen Gulati at his office and narrated how he lost his money and gold ornaments. The police recovered 1,761 grams of gold ornaments worth Rs 50 lakh from two private gold finance organisations.
