Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) here on Wednesday asked the Central government to implement every promise that was made for the State at the time of bifurcation. The APCC president N Raghuveera Reddy wrote a letter to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking an appointment with him in the second week of March to submit a representation from the Congress.

Raghuveera Reddy recalled that the Central government had committed to give over Rs 5 lakh crore for Andhra Pradesh at the time of bifurcation. He said that the promise was made on the Floor of Parliament and it was binding on the incumbent government.

He said that the promises included financial support to bridge the revenue gap, special category status to the State, special package for the backward regions, tax incentives to promote industrialisation, completion of Polavaram multipurpose project, new railway zone, metro rail project for Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam, funds for the new capital, Dugarajapatnam sea port and steel plant in Kadapa.

He further said that these promises were made in Parliament and some of them were included in the AP Reorganisation Act. However, he regretted that the BJP leaders in the past 22 months have failed to fulfill the promise. He said that the State had lost the heavily due to delay in granting the special category status and tax incentives to the industrial sector.

The Congress leader further said that the party had sent reminders to the Central government several times during the last 22 months, including the AICC president Sonia Gandhi writing to the government and the vice-president Rahul Gandhi asking for it both inside and outside the Parliament. He wanted the Prime Minister to give appointment to the APCC delegation to submit a representation on any of the three days from March 14 to 16.
