Vijayawada: The Congress asked the Telugu Desam and the Bharatiya Janata Party leadership to come for the open debate on the development projects granted to the State after bifurcation. Speaking to mediapersons here on Thursday, former legislator and the city Congress president, Malladi Vishnu said that the Andhra Pradesh Re-organisation Act 2014 had made several promises to the State.

  • He said that both BJP and TDP leaders were making contradictory statements on special category status
  • APCC general secretary, Meesala Rajeswara Rao said that they would take the one crore signatures collected from people in all the 13 districts

The then UPA government too had made several promises like special category status to the State, which was duly approved by the Cabinet and then the Finance Commission. However, BJP and TDP, which have also promised to give special category status to the State, have gone back on the promise, he alleged.

Vishnu said that both BJP and TDP leaders were making contradictory statements on special category status and other benefits that were due for the State post-bifurcation.
