Farmers and land owners under capital region are blaming agricultural zone restrictions in Capital Region Master Plan for their inability to perform marriages of their children and other functions before the Krishna Pushkaralu as there were no takers for their land and fall in prices.
Vijayawada: Farmers and land owners under capital region are blaming agricultural zone restrictions in Capital Region Master Plan for their inability to perform marriages of their children and other functions before the Krishna Pushkaralu as there were no takers for their land and fall in prices.
- Unrest among farmers of capital region grows
- Forced to put off marriages of their children
- Fall in land price forces farmers to plan exodus to city
A septuagenarian farmer of Katur village of Vuyyur mandal in Krishna district whose lands come under agricultural zone expressed his concerns that his daughter’s marriage was postponed twice as he was unable to sell his land as there were no buyers and a fall in price of land took place due to agricultural zone rules imposed by the government.
He said farmers have no option except to sell off their lands to meet their family requirements including marriage or education of their children in the absence of remunerative price for farm products .
The new rules imposed by the government ruined the social fabric and peaceful life in villages of capital region and everyone is seen discussing the issue. As Krishna Pushakaralu are approaching fast, everyone wants to perform the marriages of their children in advance but helpless with fall in land prices and absence of buyers.
Blaming agricultural zone rules, the farmer questioned where was the need for imposing restrictions in the name of agricultural zone in far off villages. Another farmer from Katur, Anne Subba Rao said that a mere chaotic condition prevails in villages for the past six months over this issue. He said villagers have been expressing ire over the government decision.
Farmers are continuing cultivation in odd conditions and the new rule appears as a death blow to them disturbing their economy. They used to mortgage or sell their lands to meet both ends. Now there is no such choice as none appears to buy or mortgage land in fear of agricultural zone restrictions, he added.
Another farmer of Komanuru village, Ganta Papa Rao, said that the villagers have been deprived of their right to construct houses in their villages as per the new rule. Farmers already hit by agrarian crisis suffered a serious blow by way of these zonal restrictions.
Kodali Venkataramana Rao of Boddapadu village of Totlavallur mandal said he suffered huge loss in cultivation with no remunerative prices of black and green grams. Now with the imposition of agricultural zone, the cost of land came down to Rs 25 lakh per acre from Rs 50 lakh.
Ch Venkateswarlu of Chandarlapadu villge said that there is no crop in upland areas of Krishna district with the prevailing drought conditions and the present agricultural zone has ruined their lives further.
They have been left with no alternative except to migrate to urban areas in search of livelihood. The Capital Region Development Authority released draft master plan for the proposed region and the last date for submitting objections closed on Tuesday.
