“Real humanity lies in blood donation as we do not know the background of the beneficiary,” said Dr G Samaram, Chairman of Rotary Red Cross Blood Bank.
Vijayawada: “Real humanity lies in blood donation as we do not know the background of the beneficiary,” said Dr G Samaram, Chairman of Rotary Red Cross Blood Bank.
Speaking at convention after launching two new schemes of Rotary Red Cross Blood Bank here on Tuesday, Samaram said that lack of awareness on medical and health benefits of donating blood or non-dissemination of knowledge on absence of any side effects in a healthy eligible male, female donor keeps them away from donation.
“If eligible people donate blood regularly and voluntarily, safe blood is always available in the blood banks,” he said. Giving a detailed structure of the two new schemes going to be implemented by the Rotary Red Cross Blood Bank, he said that first scheme was mainly focused on providing free blood for the victims of road accidents and the second scheme was to provide blood for the poor after considering the doctor’s prescription.
“Plans are also afoot by the blood bank to provide blood for the victims who possess white ration card, besides the implementation of two new schemes,” he said.
Dr Samaram said that about Rs 2.45 lakh was donated by philanthropists in the city towards the effective implementation of the newly introduced schemes. He reminded the contributions made by the members and donors of blood bank were instrumental in saving the lives of people during emergencies.
He also talked about the difficulties they had during those times in transportation of blood without proper refrigeration facilities. Indian Red Cross Krishna district chairman Dr A Sridhar Reddy, IMA Vijayawada Chapter president Dr PMC Naidu, secretary Dr Ravindranath, Efftronics Systems Pvt Ltd managing director D Ramakrishna and others were present at the news conference.
