Tirupati: The TTD management is seriously toying with the idea of streamlining all the marriages taking place atop the sacred hill temple of Lord Venkateswara. On an average about 5,000 pilgrim-couples enter into nuptial knot every year at the TTDs Kalyana Vedika alone. This apart, marriages also take place at various TTD cottages and a few private charitable institutions.

As part of its efforts of streamlining all the marriages taking place at Tirumala, the TTD has constituted a six-member committee consisting of TTD Estates Officer Balakrishna, all projects special officer Muktheswara Rao, Law Officer Ramana, Samudrala Lakshmaiah, Chief Accounts Officer Balaji and TCS CAO Sudhakar as its members.

The committee will study the feasibility of pioneering the online reservation of the timing of marriages along with the criteria to be adopted in extending them various facilities like accommodation, darshan, food and registration under a single-window system. TTD EO Dr D Sambasiva Rao held a review meeting on the modalities of the Kalyanam Scheme at TTD administrative building here on Saturday.

The EO instructed the officials concerned to come out with an application format both offline and online. The EO also wanted Deputy EO Kalyana Katta Baby Sarojini, who is also in-charge of Purohitha Sangam, to formulate the guidelines for the scheme. The TTD has proposed to offer various concessions and facilities to parents performing the marriages of their children at Kalyana Vedika.

They are Pourikitayam (solemnising) and Melam (traditional wedding music) will be arranged free of cost. Seegra Darshan facility to the newly wed and their parents, providing 10 small laddus to each married couple and vermillion-turmeric packets with kankanams would also be arranged.
