Eluru/Narsapuram: Streets in the district were decked up with yellow banners and flexis on Tuesday as the Telugu Desam party members celebrated the party foundation day on a grand scale and organised different programmes. Party cadre organised conducted two-wheeler rallies and other programmes in connection with the celebrations. MP Maganti Venkateswara Rao (Babu) and Mayor Sheikh Noorjahan garlanded the statue of TDP founder president NT Rama Rao at fire station centre and paid rich tributes to the party founder.

He said NT Rama Rao had enhanced the pride of Telugu people and improved the living conditions of poor people. He said the people had faith in Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s capability of steering the State out of present financial crisis.
Eluru Corporation cooption member SMR Pedababu, Whip G Srinivas, TDP leaders Pali Prasad, Uppala Jagadish babu, Pujari Niranjan, Reddi Appala Naidu, Eluru Mandal Parishad president Anuradha Reddy and others participated in the celebrations. They also distributed sweets on the occasion.
In Narsapuram, the Foundation Day of the Telugu Desam Party was celebrated at the party office and also at several junctions in the town on Tuesday with active participation by leaders and activists.
Scores of party leaders gathered at the NTR statue in the morning and offered garlands as a mark of respect to the party founder. TDP leader Bandaru Prathap Naidu unfurled the party's flag at the party along with party senior leader Chinimilli Satyanarayana Rao at party office.
Speaking on the occasion, they said that it was under the leadership of the TDP that a total change was brought about on the political scene. It was the TDP that played an active role in ensuring 33 per cent reservations for women and also equal rights for them, they added.
Later, the party workers took out a bike rally in the town to celebrate the occasion. AMC Chairman Rayudu Sriramulu said the Telugu Desam was the first party to decentralise power down to booth level and institutionalised the party's structure.
He said it was the TDP which has shown the way to tackle pressing problems such as unemployment, poverty, and hunger by implementing a slew of programmes. He also asked the party cadre to highlight the TDP government’s programmes.
Government Hospital Development committee Chairman Bandaru Patel Naidu distributed fruits and sweets to the patients at hospital on the occasion. Telugu Yuvata president Bhupati Babji, Hospital Committee directors Vattiprolu Satish and Pemmadi Kiran, TDP leaders Mandru Hemalatha, D Ramalakshmi and AMC director Challa Nagaraju participated in the celebrations.
Paying rich tributes, TDP leaders Koppadi Ravi, G Dharma, Tangella Nageswara Rao and Kollu Baburao recalled that the film actor, who stole the hearts of millions, founded TDP with the slogan of upholding the self-respect of Telugu-speaking people and gained power within nine months.
NTR introduced the mandal set-up and abolished the Patel and Patwari systems wherein the poor were exploited, launched Rs 2-a-kg rice scheme and housing programme in a big way for the poor, the TDP leaders said. They called upon workers and functionaries to rededicate themselves towards uplifting the downtrodden and eradicating poverty. Apart from focusing on eradication of poverty, the party would fight relentlessly to get a fair deal to farmers, women, BCs and youth, they added.
Leaders took the pledge to rededicate themselves to the values and principles for which NTR stood steadfast till his last breath. They raised slogans praising the efforts of late NT Rama Rao who strived for the uplift of Telugu people.
