Vijayawada: The State government has started the exercise to allocate space for various departments in the temporary Secretariat building which is being constructed at Velagapudi. Municipal Administration Minister P Narayana is scheduled to hold a meeting with the representatives of the Secretariat employees and the APNGOs on April 2.

  • Minister Narayana is scheduled to hold a meeting tomorrow with the representatives of the Secretariat employees and the APNGOs on shifting to the new capital and the facilities they require at the new capital
  • Govt agrees to provide bus services to the new capital from Vijayawada and Guntur and is exploring the option of operating dedicated services between Amaravati and Hyderabad for the benefit of the employees

The Secretariat was initially planned to be set up in 6 lakh sq ft area to accommodate the staff, who are to be shifted to the new capital from June on priority. The Minister had held several rounds of meetings with the representatives of the employees on shifting to the new capital and the facilities they require at the new capital.

The APNGOs have also asked the State government to construct two more floors to the temporary Secretariat to provide space for the Heads of Departments (HoDs) for which the government had agreed. This too would be discussed at April 2 meeting between the Minister and the employees.

“The government has to first identify the departments and sections that are to be shifted on priority by June. Then that would give an idea about the space required for them,” a senior officer from the Secretariat said. “We want to talk to the employees and make an assessment of the space required for each section and each department. This would give us an idea on the total space required in the new Secretariat for both the Secretariat employees and the HoDs,” said Narayana.

The government had already agreed to provide transportation facility for the staff from Guntur and Vijayawada to the new Secretariat at Velagapudi. According to the initial reports, the employees have requested the government to provide one bus from Guntur and two buses from Vijayawada to the new capital city, besides dedicated services to Amaravati from Hyderabad. The government had already agreed to provide bus services to the new capital from Vijayawada and Guntur and is exploring the option of operating dedicated services between Amaravati and Hyderabad for the benefit of the employees.
